Pick a Good New Year’s Resolution this Year

Pick a Good New Year’s Resolution this Year

I know after the New Year, I will see lots of new patients - January is always a busy month for me at CNC. There will be a common theme - "My resolution for the New Year is to lose weight!" I am so happy to work with these individuals and help them achieve their goals! However, unfortunately, all too often, the goal of "losing weight" will result in a quick regain for one of two reasons:

Mix together spinach, cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese and cheddar cheese in medium bowl. In separate bowl, combine eggs, egg whites, milk, cumin, and pepper then mix with spinach and cheese mixture. Stir in cilantro. Spoon into 12 oiled 2- ½ inch muffin cups and bake at 375 degrees for 20–25 minutes. Remove from muffin cups and serve warm with salsa, if desired.

Achievable Goals Key to Your Weight Loss Success?

What is the key to success, whether it is losing weight, saving money or following a career path? It might just be as simple as just making goals that are within reach. Achievable goals will create a flow that keeps you moving in the right direction. If you set the bar too high, you fail over and over until you get discouraged and quit. With reachable goals, you create a sense of achievement that pushes forward. Consider some rules for finding success by using achievable goals.

This is an exciting year for weight loss medications! Hot on the heels of the FDA approval for Contrave, the FDA is expected to approve Saxenda, another novel weight loss drug soon. Saxenda (liraglutide) is an analog of GLP-1 (glucose-like peptide 1). GLP-1 is a hormone our small intestine makes in response to eating.

Do You Exercise to Lose Weight?

Exercise is one of the easiest – and least expensive – steps you can take to improve your health. But the more popular reason given for people to exercise is its contribution to weight loss. We firmly believe that exercise is a wonderful adjunct to a weight loss program but let’s take a closer look at the question:

Mindful Thinking for Mindful Eating

Is it mind over matter when it comes to weight management? "Mindful eating" is a buzz phrase in nutrition circles that means putting your mind in charge of your dietary habits and enjoying your food. That is where a medical weight loss program is a bonus. The key to successful weight loss is not counting calories or following fad diets; it is creating a lifestyle that is sustainable. Mindful eating is part of that process.

Guess What? Healthy Eating Can Be Delicious, Too!

When most people think of dieting, they think of eating a never-ending stream of flavorless meals and unappealing snacks that are boring, bland and just plain unappetizing. That's a shame, because losing weight isn't about eating dull, boring food – it's about making healthy food choices, and that means eating lots of delicious foods that are as good for your palate as they are for your waistline.

The Link between Obesity and Hypertension

High blood pressure or hypertension is a condition that is frequently associated with obesity. Individuals with obesity experience twice the risk of hypertension than normal weight people. Obesity and hypertension affect the lives of millions of Americans each day. More than one in three adults in the United States have obesity and nearly one in three have hypertension.

Contrave will be available at pharmacies starting October 20th. It is FDA-approved for individuals with a BMI over 30, or over 27 with a weight-related health problem like high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes. It is approved for chronic use – that means it has been studied and approved for long-term weight control, similar to how we use medications for high cholesterol and for diabetes.
